Explore Big Bend on foot, up close, in the wild

Sample itineraries for hikes & walks:
Lost Mine – perfect for first time Big Benders

Legend has it that if you take the Lost Mine Trail on Easter Sunday, you’ll find gold. It’s fun to think about, but the real gold is in this popular Big Bend hike. Great views, even better photo ops, and tons of things to see. With a Far Flung guide watching your back and leading you on an unforgettable adventure, if you find the gold, can we go “halfsies”?

Closed Canyon – perfect for those who want to stretch their legs

What is it about cracks in the earth that we find so fascinating? We’re not sure, but we know one in Big Bend that’s great for exploring! With a Far Flung naturalist at your side, your exploration of this geological phenomenon will be more than just a walk! On our way into Closed Canyon, we’ll make several stops, including one at an old movie set and another on top of Texas’s steepest paved road, Big Hill. Bring your camera — National Geographic rates this drive as one of America’s Top 10! The Big Bend Ranch State Park calls it Closed Canyon. We call it awesome.

Apache Trail – perfect for folks interested in Big Bend’s human history

It is amazing to us how the Native Americans lived and traveled in the Big Bend. These were some hardy folks. No couch sitters or iPad users in that group! Although the early residents of this area did not build permanent structures, they did leave a great deal of their lives behind. If you like cultural history, think about joining us for a 2-hour Jeep tour and walk into one of the many Native American “base camps” in the Big Bend. You’ll need some good walking shoes, a camera, and an outdoor mind.
