Once upon a time, there was a bunch of river rats that went floating on the Rio Grande. Some could play an instrument. Some could not. But everyone loved listening to the sound of music echoing off the canyon walls.
What, someone asked, if we could persuade professional musicians to float the river with us and get them to play at night, after dinner, under the stars and around a campfire?
And so was born Far Flung's Annual River Music trip in Big Bend. We have celebrated with the likes of Jerry Jeff Walter, Butch Hancock, Dr. Fun and our current headliner - Slaid Cleaves.
Slaid has become "one of us" and enjoys paddling the canyons of Big Bend as much as we enjoy listening to his music. Around the campfire, after dinner, under the stars with a nice glass of red wine.
If you have ever wondered how the sound of music plays on walls of the Rio Grande's canyons, then you do not want to miss this trip. Oh, did we mention that the fall is one of the prettiest times to visit Big Bend?
Since our river flows are largely regulated by seasonal rainfall and dam releases from Mexico, our ability to predict water levels too far in advance is limited. When planning your multi-day trip on the Rio Grande, please understand that the trip may be conducted by canoe or raft.

Because this trip did not meet the minimum guest requirement by September 15th, we have postponed this trip until the Fall of 2012. A new date will be posted once we hear from Slaid about his schedule.
